LECTURE | The Peñafrancia Devotion a Century Hence: A Letter to 2124
As part of the INÂ: POWER AND INTIMACY, a special lecture series and exhibition, the Archbishop of Caceres Most Rev. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon, DD, will give a lecture at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary in Naga City.
Archbishop Alarcon’s lecture is titled “The Peñafrancia Devotion a Century Hence: A Letter to 2124.”
The lecture series and exhibition, which started on Friday, Sept, 6, was organized in collaboration with the Ateneo de Naga University Press.
The multimedia exhibition located significant historical events in the history of our devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia. By way of curating selected artifacts relevant to the devotion, the organizers set the goal of giving devotees and pilgrims a renewed perspective on Mary’s role as our queen and mother.
The five lectures of provocations including this lecture by Archbishop Alarcon are conducted in view of this event. The topics revolve around the practice of historical methods, the power and meanings of religious iconographies and objects, including our aspirations as to how we will continue to preserve and share this most valued gift of faith.
