Museo de Casa San Rafael

Museo de Casa San Rafael is a museum that opened its doors on Oct. 21, in Aroroy, Masbate.

It is named after the patron saint of Aroroy town, Saint Raphael the Archangel.

The museum features ecclesiastical artifacts, old coins and stamps, objects from the American Period, and objects that give glimpse on the town’s mining history.

Aroroy’s founder, Alex Alonzo, is a descendant of Aroroy town’s founder, Gregorio Cordero.

The Alonzos are also the camareros (caretakers) of the oldest existing image of St. Raphael the Archangel, which came all the way from Spain and was brought to Aroroy in the early 1900s.

The museum also features secondary burial jars found in Kalanay Cave.

The museum also features a gallery of Aroroy’s sons and daughters who have made marks in their respective fields.

Alonzo estimates that he has more or less 300 museum objects in his collection.
