Tourism Profile: Baras, Catanduanes

Baras is part of the “Triple Crown of Surfing Destinations” in Bicol along with Daet in Camarines Norte and Gubat in Sorsogon. It draws foreign tourists to the “Happy Island” Catanduanes. Some of these tourists even stay for more than a month to enjoy surfing in Puraran village.

When to Visit
If you are visiting Baras, Catanduanes to surf, make sure that you are not visiting during the southwest monsoon (habagat) season since waves could be limited. Habagat season in the Philippines is usually from July to September.
Places to Visit
Binurong Point – is one of the best places to chase the sunrise. You trek for about 30 minutes from the tourist arrival area. Don’t worry, the trek is beginner friendly. Tourists guides will orient tourists before they trek to Binurong Point.
To give you an idea how beginner-friendly the trek is, senior citizens can be seen trekking to Binurong Point.
Puraran Beach – the sunrise seen from Puraran Beach is also majestic. There are accommodations in this village if you want to stay for more than a day in Baras, Catanduanes and if you want to catch the sunrise early. There are air-conditioned rooms and fan rooms. As of this writing (Aug. 24, 2025), air-conditioned rooms as cheap as P1,000 are available.
