Camino de Peñafrancia 2024: Everything you need to know

This Camino de Santiago-inspired event is a pilgrimage that gathers devotees from all over the world in the spirit of sacrifice and prayers.

The route for this pilgrimage will allow the pilgrims a view into the history and culture in Naga City, the site of the Peñafrancia devotion and dubbed as the “Pilgrim City.” They will be taken into a 100-kilometer walk that goes through 11 towns and Naga City, and spans across 24 churches in the province of Camarines Sur

Route and Mechanics

ROUTE SUMMARY

For the first day, the journey begins in Ocampo town, where pilgrims visit several churches before proceeding to Tigaon. After Tigaon town, the route continues to San Jose town, then on to Lagonoy town, to Goa town.

Early the next morning, the walk resumes towards Tinambac town. From there, the pilgrimage continues directly to Calabanga town.

The following day, the walk leads to Magarao town, then to Canaman town, and finally, pilgrims will visit the churches in Naga City, including the Shrine of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and the Basilica.

At certain points during the pilgrimage, there will be opportunities to commune with nature, watch cultural performances and other activities to deepen the Camino experience.

MECHANICS

Throughout this pilgrimage, each participant carries a passport, known as the Camino passport, which is stamped at every church along the route. The ideal goal is to complete the approximately 100-kilometer journey, covering all the churches from the starting point to the end.

However, for those who are unable to complete the entire journey in one go, they can continue at a later time since they have their Camino passport. Those who finish the pilgrimage and collect all the stamps along the Camino de Peñafrancia route can present their stamped passport at the Basilica to receive a certificate as proof of completing the pilgrimage. At the last day, pilgrims may then join the Traslacion Procession.
